Bringing New Life to a Local Dog Kennel’s Website: A Revamp for Louise and Iain

Setting the Scene
When Louise and Iain reached out to me, they were newlyweds on an exciting new journey. They had just taken over a well-established dog kennel business in Falkirk, specializing in dog boarding services for both short and long stays. Eager to make their mark, they were enthusiastic about updating the operational processes and the overall look and feel of the business.

The Challenge: A Website Stuck in the Past
As part of their takeover, Louise and Iain inherited an old, outdated website that just wasn’t doing their business justice. They understood the value of a modern, user-friendly online presence, especially for connecting with pet owners in the area. That’s when they came to me for help. Their goal? To breathe new life into their website and create something that would resonate with both new and returning clients. Although the existing site was outdated, it still offered a good foundation for what we wanted to build.
Crafting the Content
After assessing the old website, we agreed that most of the content was still relevant, but it needed a major refresh in terms of structure and user experience. I reorganized the information to make it more intuitive and easy to find, while also presenting it in a way that guided users through the site. We opted for a single-page layout, breaking up the content into clear sections. This made navigation a breeze and allowed users to quickly get to the information they needed. At the end of the page, we added a newly designed contact form to encourage potential clients to reach out.
Designing with Personality
It didn’t take long to realize that pets played a huge role in Louise and Iain’s lives—they’re the proud owners of four German Shepherds, a golden retriever, and a cat! I knew their love for animals had to be reflected in the design. To create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we incorporated subtle pet-themed elements throughout the site. We also chose a calming colour palette of greens and teals, inspired by the natural surroundings of the kennels. This gave the website a professional yet relaxed feel, perfectly capturing the essence of their business.
